Pakistan represented in the Miss Asia International 2008 pageant.

Nosheen Idrees, runner up 3 of Miss Pakistan World, represented Pakistan in Beijing, China for Miss Asia International 2008. The participation was an official one from Pakistan and this was the second time Pakistan got represented in the Asian beauty pageant. Nosheen Idrees hailing from Jhelum Pakistan stated that she was well received by the Chinese delegation and it was a wonderful experience for her. The organizing committee took all contestants to The Great Wall of China, along with other scenic places and landmarks like The Forbidden City in Beijing. The contestants were residing at the Jiuhu Hotel (5 star, international) in Beijing which is well known for servicing the 2008 Olympics in August 2008.

A student of communications at the University of Sheffield, Nosheen hopes to bring back a title that can put Pakistan as a country that has the most beautiful women in the world. In her own words, Nosheen says, "Pakistan is a country where the most beautiful women exist and it’s a shame that it’s not recognized for it." Nosheen is set to change the perception of how the world looks at Pakistan and hopefully she says that she may be able to spread the message of peace for her country and be a great ambassador for the youth. Nosheen also stated that the hospitality of the host country China was amazing and that she would love to go back for a visit some day.

Sonia Ahmed, President of Miss Pakistan World stated, “We are honored that Pakistan got involved in the Asian pageant as we have done International pageants as well as European pageants but it was wonderful to be in competition with Asian countries as well. Pakistan is still growing in the beauty pageant industry and in a short span of under 6 years Pakistan has got involved with many international pageants. Nosheen Idrees is an exceptional candidate who has represented Pakistan on both local and international levels in the beauty pageant industry.”

The Miss Pakistan World will be crowning its new queen in June 2009 and selections of contestants are being made at the moment. With the completion of 5 international pageants this year, 2009 seems to be a promising year for the Miss Pakistan World beauty pageant.

Pakistan represented well at the Miss Earth 2008 pageant

Two weeks later and Nosheen Idrees, Miss Pakistan Earth 2008 is raving about her wonderful experience at the world’s largest pageant, Miss Earth which took place in Manila, Philippines. Her group number was three which consisted of contestants from other countries who then became very close at heart to her. Lucky for Idrees, she celebrated her 22nd birthday at the Miss Earth pageant with all the contestants and officials surprising and singing for her.

The reviews done by pageant gurus on Miss Pakistan Earth were amazing where OPMB quoted that she was a strong candidate as well as knowledge on environmental issues. Others on the forum said that she may be the dark horse in the end and would surprise the audiences. A lot of photographs were taken of Miss Pakistan and Miss Israel by media and Pakistani pageant officials. Sonia Ahmed, President of Miss Pakistan World stated that this was precisely to show that Pakistan and Israel are getting along in events like Miss Earth and that more work should be done by politicians to improve relations with countries like Israel and India.

Idrees made sure that the 21 days that she spent in Manila with about 90 countries was spent in educating other countries about today's Pakistan and its culture. In the end this entire experience was a pleasant one. Sonia Ahmed, President of Miss Pakistan World said, “This is Pakistan’s 7th year in pageantry and even though Pakistan has a long way to go, we have made up for at least 50 years that were lost in the past due to fanatical viewpoints. The only thing left to do is to go forward.”

Nosheen Idrees - Miss Pakistan Earth 2008 (Day to Day Activities at Miss Earth 2008)

Nosheen Idrees Miss Pakistan Earth 2008 kept a little detail of what happened in the day to day events in the Miss Earth 2008 pageant. This is a very great contribution from her as the future Miss Pakistan Earth delegates can learn about the activities and fun Nosheen had in the Miss Earth pageant.

Even though the pageant is over I would like to continue to make changes to make our planet a safer place to live. I would like to educate the younger generation about issue's regarding our climate change and what can be done to change this...I will be organsing activities and love for you all to be part of this. So keep a watch out for future projects and thanks for taking the time to view this page! This was an amazing experince overall with lots of up's and down's but I'm so happy to have had the chance to be part of it! Hope you all enjoy the pictures! Nov 11 - I'm going back home today and I'm kind of sad, most of the girls have already left! Feels wierd being here for so long and now returning home. I feel like I've been here forever...I'm going to miss Miss Bhutan (Tsokye) & Miss South Africa (Matapa) the most because they were my roomies! I'm going to miss our ritual talks every night before bed.....Have just got to the airport, I'm flying back with Miss Malta, Miss South Sudan, Miss Uganda, Miss Serbia and Miss Nigeria! We have lots of excess baggage - off course we came to a beauty pageant for 3 weeks! I thought we would all sit together but we're scattered all over the plane lol. So we get to Dubai Airport and said bye to the girls! :(

Nov 10 - We're back at the Traders Hotel and we have the chance to go shopping at the Mall Of Asia - one of the biggest mall's in Asia. It was alot of fun - letting our hair down and just hanging out. Later most of us girls hung out in one room and ordered McDonald's and just talked about the eventful trip and we were going to miss each other!

Nov 9 - Day of the competition! The whole trip has been an amazing experince and I'm so lucky to have been a part of it. It's something which I will always remember and I have also made some great friends who I hope to keep in touch with and even meet someday again..

Nov 7 - We all set off to Pampanga for the main night! We all shared villa's and attended more rehersals. We had a few busy days.

Nov 6 - Rehersals started for the main competition. We are all took part in the opening number. We had a few long days rehersing till we all got it perfect. Took us a while but we finally got there.

Nov 2 - We went back to the Traders Hotel and met rest of the girls. In the evening some of the girls took part in the Talent Competition. It was fun to be part of the audience and cheer on the girls, they all did really well.

Oct 31 - In the morning we all went to do a beach clean-up which was cool and later had a photoshoot at the hotel, we then went on a cruise tour around the bay. In the eveing a Mascarade Haloween party was held for us which was ALOT of fun!

Oct 30 - We got to visit the local safari park which was amazing - I got to feed one the tigers - was really scary at the time!!! In the evening we had a parade in the town and a haloween show was put together for us by the local people which was really fun. Some of us also did the thriller dance on stage which was fun lol. We later went to the hotel's bar and did some karoke... I think the other guests may have been frightened by our singing lol!

Oct 29 - Eight of us girls were selected from the groups to go and visit Subic Bay, where we introduced ourselves in a press conference at the Lighthouse Hotel - where we also stayed.

Oct 28 - We had our press presentation at the hotel with the local press and in the evening we had our National Costume Competition.

Oct 27 - MY B-DAY!!!We went to a welcoming dinner party where we met ambasodor's from different tourism groups. Everyone sang 'Happy birthday...' to me - was kind of embarasing but sweet!

Oct 26 - All the groups met up Laguna for the sportsfest. It was alot of fun competing against eachother - our group came second.

Oct 24 - We left Coron and some of us went to Batangus where we took part in a mini fashion show at one of the local mall's with some members from group 2. After this we went to the resort of Sunset Beach where we stayed for a couple of nights. We took part in various actvities such as a local parade to raise awareness about what the pageant was about and some tree planting with the locals. I also had a photoshoot with the newspaper - The Philipene Star. We also took part in a fashion show for some local designers.

Oct 22 - All candidates were split into three groups and I was in the best group which was group 3 and we all got on like a house on fire! My group included Miss Bhutan, Miss Wales, Miss Scotland, Miss Serbia, Miss USA, Miss Jamaica, Miss Suriname, Miss Turks & Caicos, Miss Sweden, Miss China, Miss Macau, Miss Kosovo, Miss Venezuela, Miss Spain, Miss Turkey, Miss Malta, Miss Romania, Miss Slovenia and Miss South Sudan. All the other girls were really nice to but these are the ones I spent the most time with and got to know the most.Group 3 flew to the beautiful Island of Coron which was truly a paradise! If you ever get the chance to travel to the Philipenes I would recomend you to visit Plawan.

Oct 21 - Today went to a local school visit with Miss Sweden, Miss Czech Republic, Miss Jamaica ect..The visit included tree planting with the children from the school and spreading our individual messages about to save Planet Earth.

Oct 20 - Just arrived at the airport in Manila, Philipenes as the hottt weather hits me. Miss malta was on the same flight as me and I didn't even know! I flew with Emirates and the journey has been longggg. We were greeted at the airport by some of the members of the Miss Earth organisation and also by some local press.Later checked in at the Traders Hotel with other candidates such as Miss South Africa and Miss Malta. Have an hour to get ready for our calender photoshoot which is taking place in one of the suites at the hotel. Later had a welcoming meal at the airport with all the other 85 candidates and some airline staff. My aim at this years Miss Earth 08 was to raise awareness about air pollution in Pakistan. I believe that introducing a congestion charge in big cities like Islamabad and Lahore is a step forward to reduce air pollution in the country. My message is to use more bio-fuels and using different methods of transportation such as bicycles to make our country a safer and a cleaner place to live for the population today and other generations to come.Mother Earth protects us so we should protect her.Besides being the 3rd largest beauty pageant in the world, Miss Earth's aim is to educate and raise awareness of enviromental issues around the globe.

Miss Earth 2008

The much-awaited Miss Earth 2008 Press Presentation may have, on the surface, seem identical to last year’s press presentation. The following basic elements were present: 1. The traditional humid weather matched with torrential downpours. The presskit of candidate photos printed on photo paper;3.

The press conference featuring the candidates in semi-formal daywear (an innovation instituted last year) introducing themselves with an environmental message (Filipino greeting optional); and4. The outdoor swimsuit group photo shoot along the hotel poolside. However, a few subtle, welcome changes actually occurred in the conduct of this year’s press presentation. To wit: 1. The torrential downpour indeed occurred during the indoor press conference, but with perfect timing, it stopped when it was time for the candidates to switch to their sky blue bikinis by Sports Armor and the noontime sun was beating down and asserting itself against the still-cloudy skies when the candidates assembled for the outdoor swimsuit group photo shoot by the poolside of Traders Hotel.2.

For the first time ever, the press presentation was held later in the middle of pageant activities instead of around the first week; with the new scheduling of the press presentation, it’s easier now for journalists to get the complete and correct roster of candidates as all were now accounted for during this year’s press presentation. Remember before, journalists would expect some late arrivals and/or no-shows from the press kit provided by Carousel Productions. The final tally this year: 85.*13.

Corollary to having the finalized roster of candidates by the time the press presentation comes in, there was finally time to assemble unified official portraits of the candidates for the press kit instead of the random assortment of photos (of varying quality) provided by the directors/candidates prior to their arrival. In fact, on top of the portraits on the presskit set on a white backdrop, there was a photo exhibit at the lobby of the press presentation featuring a differing set candidate portraits set on a dark backdrop (arguably the portraits on the photo exhibit were actually of a better quality than the presskit portraits, but both photo sets were of a unified high standard—maybe not yet Fadil Berisha level but still wonderful enough; kudos to new photo sponsor Photos du Monde).

*1 For reference, here is a tally of the number of candidates present during the press presentation in comparison to the final tally, expressed in the form of a fraction: 2001 – 36/42; 2002 – 41/53; 2003 – 50/57; 2004: 46/61 (though 48 were actually in the country by that time; two ladies were under the weather during the press presentation); 2005 – 76/80; 2006 – 73/82; and 2007 – 70/88.
